Waterville / Dromod Win U-16 County Title 2008

Waterville / Dromod 2-11 .... Templenoe 0-06
Christopher Farley Receives Trophy

The parish combination of Waterville / Dromod took on their counterparts from Templenoe in the final of Div 3 U16 County League on Wed 13th Aug 2008 at Sneem.
Waterville / Dromod keeper Jason O’Sullivan set the tone for his team in the very first minute pulling off a wonderful save when a Templenoe goal seemed certain. Templenoe pressed hard for the initial five or six minutes and it took all the might of the Waterville / Dromod defence to withstand the onslaught.
Team

Gradually Waterville / Dromod came to terms with the pace of the game and Eoin O’Sullivan got the scoring started with a terrific point in the eight minute. That was followed within a minute by a Barry O’Dwyer free. Waterville / Dromod were by far more efficient with the ball and went on to dominate the remainder of the first half. Micheál Cronin’s tenth minute goal was a just reward for the Waterville / Dromod pressure and in the following fifteen minutes the Barry O’Dwyer / Gearóid O’Sulllivan combination in the Waterville / Dromod forward line created havoc, with O’Sullivan notching up a personal tally of five points. Under 16s Win South Kerry Final 2008

Waterville 4 –07 Bally / Foilmore 2-09

Waterville U-16s captured yet another South Kerry Championship title on Saturday last, 2 nd of August. The game was played in Con Keating Park Cahersiveen and the boys from Ballinskelligs and Foilmore provided the opposition.
Waterville played into the town end in the first half and were first to register on the scoreboard through the boot of the young, classy Barry O’Dwyer when converting a free. It was O’Dwyer who was to prove the main difference between these two fine teams in the final analysis. His personal score tally for the game amounted to 3-05. In the Bally/Foilmore camp Eanna O’Connor was a constant thorn in the Waterville defence and he notched up 1-08 for his side.

While all players showed outstanding skill and sportsmanship, the aforementioned Barry and Eanna had that something special and we eagerly await seeing them playing on a South Kerry team together in the near future.
Indeed, it was Éanna who had his side level in the fifth minute when kicking a fine left footed shot between the posts but a minute later Barry O’Dwyer rattled the net for Waterville after collecting a well placed pass from Micheál Curran. Waterville were in the ascendancy at this early stage and Eoin O’Sullivan kicked over a fine free twelve minutes in, after a foul on Barry O’Dwyer. It was Éanna O’Connor who rescued his side with a goal from close range in the thirteenth minute. (See Reports)

Golf Am Am 2007

Intermediate Championship

(April 29th, 2007 @ Waterville)

After the disappointment of losing to eventual All Ireland Champions Ardfert in last year’s Intermediate Championship after a replay, Waterville were hoping to go one better this year but visitors Duagh, last year’s Junior Champs, shattered that hope and go on to contest the next round of the competition.

Freshers All Ireland Champs

IT Tralee 0-09 ....IT Carlow 0-07

P Curran & Kev O'DwyerTwo of our young players Kevin O'Dwyer & Patrick Curran helped their college, IT Tralee win the Freshers All Ireland. The game was played in Ragg, Co Tipperary and Carlow started the better with a strong wind to their backs. IT Tralee were somewhat wasteful with their opportunities and were two points behind at half time.

Patrick Curran was carrying an injury and didn't start the game while club mate Kevin O'Dwyer did his best to stem the Carlow onslaught in the defence.

With ten minutes to go in the game it looked like it wasn't going to be Tralee's day but the introduction of the injured Curran had an immediate impact. Straight away he turned his defender and kicked over a wonderful point. This lifted his team mates and turned the tide in Tralee's favour and they went on to win by two points in the end.

Well done to both players and their Tralee team mates. We may well see these players capture the Sigerson in the coming years.

Medal Presentation

At a very pleasant function at the Waterville Inn on Monday evening March 19 th our young players, male and female, were presented with their medals by “The Legend” himself, Mick O’Dwyer.
The under 12 boys were runners up in the South Kerry “A” Final.
The under 12 girls won out their section in the South Kerry Championship while the under 14 boys were victorious in South Kerry for the second year in a row and they also won their section in combination with Dromid in the County League.

This was a huge achievement for these young footballers and their dedicated coaches. Mick O’Dwyer made a special trip from Wicklow to attend the occasion and make the presentations along with former county minor captain Patrick Curran. Micko congratulated all involved and gave some good advice to these young people, which will guide them in their sporting and personal lives in the years ahead.

Tony Donnelly presented the under 12 team with a new set of jerseys for the coming year and the club appreciates this generous gesture.
After refreshments and finger food the evening concluded with a lively disco.

Club Social February 2nd 2007

The club's annnual social took place in the Waterville Lake Hotel on Friday 2nd of February. Guest of honour for the evening was Patrick Brennan chairman of the South Kerry Senior Board. A wonderful evening was had by all and after a beautifully prepared meal chairman Paddy Fogarty thanked all who supported the club during the previous twelve months and outlined the achievements of the various teams and their mentors.

These young ladies were out in their finery and added to the glamour of the occasion.

The junior team members were presented with County Junior League and Barrett Cup medals while the minors were victorious in the County Minor League Div 2 in asssociation with their Dromid colleagues. It was a particularly good year for the under 18s as they also captured the South Kerry Minor Championship trophy for the second year running. Tribute was also paid to the victorious under 14s who again won the South Kerry Championship.
Denis & PatrickSpecial tribute was paid to Denis O'Dwyer and Patrick Curran who won Senior Championship medals with South Kerry. Patrick was the worthy captain, who led by example, of the county minor team that unfortunately lost out to Roscommon in the All Ireland replay. Denis has a haul of All Ireland medals won at different levels which is probably unequalled in the whole country and was the popular choice as "Player Of The Year" for 2006.
After the formalities the guests moved to the dance area and when the enormously talented Patrick O'Sullivan started the music it was the signal to take to the floor and dance the night away.
The more mature ladies certainly enjoyed their night out and showed they can match the younger generation when it comes to style.

John Galvin & Fr BroderickNew senior team trainer John Galvin was seen seeking some spiritual advice for the year ahead from Fr Danny Broderick.
John, along with Mike O'Dwyer, Mike Keating and John "Super" O'Sullivan will guide the fortunes of the senior team for the coming season.

Eoin Curran
Junior team member Eoin Curran was thrilled to receive his Barrett Cup medal, as team manager Eugene Dennehy proudly looks on.

John O'Dwyer & Patrick Foley

Some of the guests like to purchase their clothes in the same shops as can be seen in the picture to the left.

Haulie & LizRecently engaged couple Liz O'Shea and Haulie O'Dwyer enjoyed the evening and got in some dance practise for their big day in October.

Dan Fitz & Paddy FogartyChairman Paddy Fogarty made a presentation to former trainer Dan Fitzpatrick, in appreciation of his huge personal commitment to the club and the senior squad in particular.
