Twenty One Years Is A Mighty Long Time
On Wednesday Sept 22nd Paddy Sean was posthumously awarded a Gold Medal for Bravery. The award was presented in Leinster House by Ceann Comhairle Seamus Kirk, who chairs the Deeds of Bravery Council otherwise known as Comhairle na Mire Gaile. Daughters Julie Carey and Patricia Horgan along with his son John accepted the award on behalf of the family. Unfortunately, Paddy Sean's wife Susan couldn't make it to the ceremony. We wish her a speedy recovery. Another proud member of Paddy's family is his brother Joe who lives in the old homestead at Muirioch. We visited Joe recently and he showed us Paddy's citation and medal with great and fully justified pride. This award may not have happened but for the relentless determination of Gerald Cronin and Eugene Dennehy, who knew Paddy Sean well. Indeed, Paddy is still remembered with great affection by his many friends in our community as is Fr. Willie. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar an mbeirt acu.
Cheque For The Post Popular local postman Joe Murphy of Tarmons was the winner of the GAA lotto draw recently and scooped the jackpot worth €3,450. Joe purchases his tickets weekly in Scariff Meats butcher shop and little did he realise that when he chose 9, 13, 18 and 25 he would be the sole winner. This is the second time in a row for Scariff Meats to sell a winning ticket so next time while you wait for Micheál to cut you a juicy steak or weigh out a tasty stir fry, it might be a good idea to spend a few euros on a GAA lottery ticket. You Could Be The Next Winner ! Wedding Anniversary Celebrating their twenty fifth wedding anniversary recently were Joan and Patrick O'Sullivan of Shanaknock. A large gathering of friends, family, neighbours and well wishers assembled at the Lobster Bar for a surprise party. We wish Joan & Patrick many more years of health and continued happiness.

Medals Presentation A most enjoyable evening was held in the clubrooms recently where our own Mick O'Dwyer presented medals to our under age players, minors and junior teams. The hard working committee prepared finger food, tea and sandwiches. We look forward to many more such events in such a wonderful setting.

This is how the opportunity to do the trek came along. VSO Ireland is the charity that got in touch with roses and escorts to organise a Mt Kilimanjaro trek exclusively for roses and escorts. About the charity – VSO Ireland Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is an international development charity that works through experienced volunteers living and working as equals alongside local partners. It is the largest independent volunteer-sending organisation in the world. Their vision is a world without poverty in which people work together to fulfil their potential. Instead of sending food or money, they send women and men from a wide range of professions who want the chance to make a real difference in the fight against poverty. These volunteers work in partnership with colleagues and communities to share skills and learning and achieve positive change together. It costs VSO €7.80 on average to support a volunteer living and working alongside some of the world’s poorest communities for a day. That €7.80 enables them to pass on skills and share their experience with local people to help them lift themselves out of poverty. But as a charity they need your support. |
